The History of Brass Steam Locomotives.

The first brass steam locomotives were brought back as souvenirs by american soldiers stationed in Japan in the early 1950s. These very simple souvenirs were actually far superior to anything being offered by american producers.

The locomotives still had a very simple finish and many were then hand painted. However, the japanese craftsmen quickly learned to satisfy the american desire for a high level of detail.
